Sharing Time Idea from 2013 Primary Outline
IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (looking at pictures): Display a few pictures of Jesus Christ serving others. For example, use GAB pictures 41, 42, 46, 47, and 55. Ask the children to describe what is happening in each picture. Point out that Jesus is serving others in on the board, “Jesus Christ taught us how to serve others.
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (reading scriptures and role-playing): Ask the children to take turns acting out one of the needs described in Matthew 25:35–36. For example, a child could pretend to be hungry, thirsty, a stranger, or sick. Ask the other children to guess the need and then act out how they can serve someone with that need. Read Matthew 25:35–40 together, and ask the children to look for who Jesus Christ says we are serving when we serve others.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS IdeasToday I have a great idea that I found in a past issue of The Friend. I think the Primary children will really enjoy this activity while they learn about serving others.
To Begin: Have several pictures of Jesus serving others displayed at the front of the room. Walk into the room wearing an apron & have a large serving tray covered with a napkin.
Point to the pictures & ask the children if they recognize any of the people in the pictures or if they know what is going on in the pictures. After you have discussed the pictures for a little bit say to the children:
As we can see in each of these pictures, Jesus loved serving others. He was the perfect example of service. He said, “I am among you as he that serveth” (Luke 22:27). He knew that He came to earth to serve others, not to be served. Do you think it is odd that the Master served others? Master and servant are opposite words. You might think it is surprising that the greatest masters are those who serve.During Jesus’s mortal life, He served the poor. He taught the gospel. He fed crowds of hungry people. He washed His disciples’ feet. He healed the sick and even raised the dead.
Jesus taught the importance of service. In the scriptures we can read what Jesus will say when He comes to earth again, He will say to the righteous: ‘I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me’ (Matthew 25:35–36).Jesus said the righteous will not remember doing any of those things for Him.
I want to read one more scripture and I want you to listen for an answer. I want you to listen for who Christ says we serve when we serve others. When you hear the answer stand up (or choose any other action).Read Matthew 25:40 aloud: “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Discuss with the children what the scripture means. Then tell the children that today they are going to learn more about serving others.Tell the children that today you wore an apron to Primary so you could ‘serve’ them. Show the children your tray and explain that you have several different items underneath the napkin that will help them learn about serving others.
I hope you enjoy my Sharing Time idea. Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day & a great Sharing Time!
