{Sharing Time} Heavenly Father Planned for Me to Come to a Family: 1st Week Sharing Time Idea for July 2013

Sharing Time Ideas from the 2013 Primary Outline

IDENTIFY DOCTRINE Show the children “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” and explain that it teaches that Heavenly Father’s plan is for His children to come to earth in families.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (looking at pictures): Divide the children into groups and give each group a picture of a family (for example, Adam and Eve teaching their children [GAB, no. 5], Christ raising Jairus’s daughter [GAB, no. 41], Lehi’s family arriving in the promised land [GAB, no. 71], and a family praying [GAB, no. 112]). Invite each group to find the family members in their picture. Have each group show their picture to the rest of the children and point out the father, mother, and children. Ask the children to show with their fingers how many people are in their own families. Tell them that their families are part of Heavenly Father’s plan.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION: Ask the boys to stand. Explain that they can each be the father of a righteous family someday. Invite a few of the boys to say something they might do to be a good father. Ask the girls to stand, and explain that they can each be the mother of a righteous family. Ask a few of them to say something they might do to be a good mother. Invite all the children to share something they can do to bring happiness to the families they have now.

Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
To begin your Sharing Time you will be playing a guessing game.
Place a picture of your family, or a picture of one of the children’s family, inside a box.
Tell the children that you have something inside the box and they have to figure out what it is. You can have the children ask yes or no questions (like the 20 questions game) or just give them clues.
Play the game (asking questions or giving clues) until someone knows what is inside the box. Have the children raise their hands once they know, then call on a child to share their answer.
Reveal what is inside the box. Talk a little bit about families. Then show the children “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” and explain that it teaches that Heavenly Father’s plan is for His children to come to earth in families.

Sharing Time Game Ideas
Here is an idea that I shared before. The original idea came from a wonderful sister that shared her idea on Sugardoodle. I thought this idea would work great for this week’s Sharing Time.

Family BINGO: Make a big bingo card out of poster-board or just draw one on the chalkboard. In each square have clues, pictures or scripture references about families in the scriptures. Make the middle (or central) square be a free square that says:
"Heavenly Father Planned For Me to Come to a Family".
Tell the children that they are going to be playing ‘Family BINGO’ today. Explain that each of the squares is about a family in the scriptures. Some of the squares have questions while others have a scripture.
You will need to come up with questions, scriptures, etc. and type or write them onto pieces of paper. Have all your questions, scriptures, etc. in a container.
Pick the questions randomly from the container. Ask the question aloud and when the question is answered have the children find the square on their BINGO card and place a marker on that square.
Once they reach BINGO (you could have them try to get a black out, an X, 5 in a row, etc.) they WIN!
For your markers you could cut a large circle from pieces of paper. You could even have the weekly theme typed on it or a picture of a family.

Another Way to Play:
You could also create 2 large BINGO cards and split the children into 2 groups. Be sure to make the cards different from each other.
Take turns asking each group a question. But like BINGO each group will get to add a marker to their card, even if they didn’t answer the question.
Play until one of the groups gets BINGO!
You could even incorporate the Encourage Understanding into your game. Just have to of the squares say how they can be a good Mother or Father.

Who Am I: Pick several children or teachers/adults to act as a member of a scripture family. Give them the Gospel Art Kit picture that talks about that family and 3-4 clues.
At the front of the room have a table and 2 bells/buzzers.
Split the children into 2 teams. Have 1 member from each team come to the front and sit at the table. Tell the children that someone is going to come in and read some clues aloud. If the child (at the table) knows who it is have them ring their bell/buzzer.
Have them tell their answer. If they answer incorrect the other team gets a turn to answer.
If both teams have answered incorrectly give them one last 'easy' clue.
Scripture Families to use: Adam and Eve teaching their children [GAB, no. 5], Christ raising Jairus’s daughter [GAB, no. 41], Lehi’s family arriving in the promised land [GAB, no. 71], and a family praying [GAB, no. 112])
**If you have the children give clues you might want to write up some clues ahead of time.

There are my ideas for this week’s Sharing Time.
I hope you have a great Sharing Time and a wonderful day!
Thanks for stopping by.
