I first saw this sign on Pinterest and fell in love.
So I went to work and created my own version. I decided to add a cute little reindeer on the top of the sign, what do you think? Personally, I love it! I made this to give to someone in my family, but I think I’m going to have to make them a different one because this one is staying.
Here is what I did for my board.
For this sign I actually used a vinyl stencil (this is like a regular stencil, but with vinyl; which sticks to the work surface better), but vinyl lettering works great too.
First, I found a nice piece of scrap wood, yep, just some old piece of wood that no one wanted, and painted 2 coats of brown. Let it dry...then painted 2 coats of white and let it dry again.
I got my stencil and placed it where I wanted. Then I got my red paint and painted each of the reindeer’s names and the ‘o’ in Rudolph. Then I painted my cute little reindeer a dark brown. And next I painted Rudolph’s name gray.
I let it dry and then painted another coat. Then I ‘tried’ to patiently wait as the paint dried (but no such luck) and then peeled the stencil off. I had a few boo boo’s, but I got it fixed and moved on.
Next I distressed it. This is where the first coat of brown comes in. As you sand different parts of the board the white paint will wear away revealing the color behind it. In this case, brown! I even distressed some of the red lettering.
Then I put it up in my house and had everyone in my family stop and observe Mom’s wonderful masterpiece. ;)
