Sharing Time Idea from the 2012 Primary Outline

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (seeing a demonstration and memorizing a scripture): Invite a child to come to the front of the room.  Tell the other children to follow his or her instructions.  Whisper simple instructions to the child, such as "Tell them to clap three times" or "Tell them to stand and march in place."  Allow several children to have a turn as the leader.  Explain that although they did not all hear you give instructions; they were able to obey the instructions because they knew who to follow.  Ask who we should follow to know what Heavenly Father wants us to do.  Show a picture of the current President of the Church.  Have the children say together, "God speaks through living prophets."  Read Amos 3:7, and explain any words the children do not understand.  Help the children memorize the scripture (see TNGC, 171-72)

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas

As I read this week's Sharing Time I remembered an idea that I shared last year. So, I searched and sure enough it is almost identical to the idea for this year. I decided to go ahead and use that as my idea for this week's Sharing Time, hope you don't mind. 

You begin the Sharing Time by having a child come to the front or out in the hallway with you. You will then give him/her a message to tell the other children.

After the message has been told to the other children you will discuss who speaks for our Heavenly Father.

After that little activity you will have a some pictures posted and learn about some things that Prophets have told us in the past.

Then to finish up your Sharing Time you will play a fun 'Cranium' game with additional teachings taught by past prophets.

Pick some topics that we have been asked to do and then have the children either draw, act, or mold the teachings.

Church Members Today Are Blessed For Choosing The Right: 4th Week Sharing Time Idea for February

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (sharing stories): Invite several parents or grandparents of the children in your Primary to share stories about how they or their ancestors chose the right.  This could include stories of how they chose to join the Church.  Before each story, ask the children to listen for ways these Church members chose the right and how they were blessed for doing so.  After each story, ask the children to tell how the members were blessed for choosing the right.  Consider asking the children to draw pictures about the stories as they hear them and then share their pictures with others in Primary and at home.

So....it's been awhile. The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind! I've hardly sat down at my computer, hence the absence of ideas on my blog. :)

I've been wanting to share a few, but just never had time to sit down and type them up.

Today's idea is actually the idea we used for the 5th Sunday in January. My husband is the Young Men's president, and every 5th Sunday the YM/YW are in charge of Singing & Sharing Time.

As soon as I found that out I told him I had a great idea for him.

And since I never got around to taking pictures or posting the idea, I decided to use the idea for this week's idea.


"Punch a Box: Choose the Right Game"


For this fun and exciting game you will need:
1-'Punch a Box'
Not sure how to make one? You are in luck! Shannon from Shannon Makes Stuff, was kind enough to share a tutorial on her blog.

I could not find a tri-fold poster-board, so I had to use a regular old poster-board. I also didn't have those nice boxes for each hole, so I used brown lunch sacks. I just cut them in half (so they weren't so tall) and then taped/glued them to the back of the poster-board.

One more thing I did differently: see how nice her squares are? I kind of procrastinated making our Punch a box and didn't have time to cut my tissue paper into nice squares, so I glued my tissue paper to the back of the poster-board (behind the hole). That way you couldn't see my sad, crooked squares.

OK, back to the game.

Inside each box/bag you will place a question or a song or whatever you'd like. Invite a child to come to the front and 'PUNCH'. Have them get the paper from the box and read it aloud.

For our sharing time we combined the 'Punch a Box' with a life-size game board. If the scenario inside their box was a good choice, they got to move forward a certain number of spaces. If the scenario was a bad choice, they would move back.

The first child came to the front and punched the box, read the scenario and then moved the number of spaces. Then the next child 'punched, and read the scenario. The child then went and replaced the previous child on the game-board and moved the number spaces on his/her card.

That way everyone had a chance to be a part of the life-size game.

The scenarios I used were actually from the "Name that Consequence" game I found on Pinterest.

To make it a little more personal you could call a few parents and ask them for stories about a time the primary children made a good/bad choice. Then use those stories as your scenario cards.

You might just want to ask for good choices and then make up bad choices. I think the children would really love hearing the stories.

You could discuss how each child was blessed by choosing the right.
