My Body is a Temple: 1st week Sharing Time idea for August

Sharing Time Idea from 2011 Primary Outline
IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (discussing temples): Before Primary, write the phrase "Ye are the temple of God" (1 Corinthians 3:16-17) on the board. Show the children pictures of temples, and ask them what makes a temple so special (it is a house of the Lord, clean, well cared for, and a place where the Holy Ghost can come. Write their responses on the board. Explain that our bodies, like temples, are sacred and need to be treated with respect by ourself and others.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING AND APPLICATION (answering questions and coloring): Copy the picture on page 47 of the Nursery manual, Behold Your Little Ones. Cut out the circles in the picture, and put them in a container. Ask a child to choose one of the circles. Ask the children how the picture reminds them to treat their bodies like temples. Give each child a copy of the picture, and invite them to color it. Invite older children to write one thing under each circle that they will do this week to treat their bodies like temples. Invite the children to take their pictures home to teach their family how they can treat their bodies like temples.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (discussing gospel standards): Display a copy of "My Gospel Standards". Ask the children to identify which gospel standards teach them how to treat their bodies like temples. Invite the children to turn to someone sitting nearby and share one way they are treating their body like a temple. Then ask them to think about one way they can improve. Invite a few of the children to share their thoughts with everyone.

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas
A few months ago the first counselor in our Primary did a Sharing Time using a Mr. Potato Head. The children loved it! As I read the idea for this week in the outline I remembered her idea and my idea came to me.

You can use a Mr. Potato head or draw an outline of a person on a poster-board. Here is a great paper-doll print-out you could use, just blow it up or draw it onto a poster-board:

Have each body part in a bag (or write each body part on a piece of paper and have the pieces of paper in a bag).
The children will take turns picking a body part. You will then discuss what we must do to keep our bodies clean and pure. Here are some examples:
Mouth- eat healthy and obey the word of wisdom
Hair- hygiene
Legs & Arms-do you exercise?
I have included examples for each body part.

And I've even included some 'spiritual' things.
Legs & Arms- do you 'exercise' faith?
Mouth- do you keep your spirit 'fed'?

I think this will be a really great Sharing time and the children will have alot of fun and will learn how they need to treat their bodies. I am going to take alot of information from 'For the Strength of Youth' and I might even have quotes from 'For the Strength of Youth' typed up for the older children to read, so I'm not talking the whole time. :)

At the end I will show them a heart with the scripture Alma 34:36 written on it. I will tell the children
“If you are clean in mind and body, you can receive great blessings because “the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell”
Then I will bear my testimony on the importance of keeping our bodies/temples pure and clean.

As I was preparing my Sharing Time I saw some other great ideas from the May 2002 'Friend:' Ye are the Temple of God.

I think that's it. Don't forget tomorrow is the last day to enter the 'Just Be' Giveaway.

Hope you have a great week & a great Sharing Time.
Thanks!!

I can prepare to be worthy to go to the temple: 4th Week Sharing Time Idea for July

Sharing Time Ideas from the 2011 Primary Outline
ENCOURAGE APPLICATION AND UNDERSTANDING (discussing and teaching others): Display "My Gospel Standards" and explain that following these standards will help us to be worthy to go to the temple. Divide the children into groups. Have a teacher in each group discuss the standards that will help the children prepare to go to the temple and testify of how living the standards has helped him or her. Ask each group to choose one of the gospel standards and then write or draw their commitment to follow that standard. Invite the bishop or branch president into Primary, and have each group share with him their commitment. Invite the bishop or branch president to share his testimony about the importance of temples.

Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
It has been a crazy few weeks, so I apologize for being late on my posts. I love summer, but it seems like there is something going on every week, so I don't have any time to just sit and get things done. :)
Here are a few ideas that I have for this week. I didn't have time to type up an outline, but I hope these ideas can help you out some way.
I also want to say Thank you for all your wonderful comments. I have the best readers and y'all leave the kindest comments. I haven't had alot of time to reply to them (plus our internet has been acting up, which is really annoying) but I want you to know that I do read each one of them and I truly appreciate them. So thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :)

1. For my first idea I have a fun game idea that would work for Sr. Primary. I call it 'Charadaboodle'. It's a combo of 'Charades', 'Taboo', and 'Win Lose or Draw'.
Since this week's focus is on My Gospel Standards I thought it would be fun to pick a main word out of each standard and have the children either act it out, guess the word (taboo) or draw the word (doodle).

-I think everyone knows how to play Charades, so I won't explain that part.
-The Taboo part is a game where the children will have to guess a certain word. I have included some Taboo Cards that you can use if you want. On each card is a word, the child will need to give clues to the other children to help them guess the word. But they can't say the 'buzz words'. The buzz words are found on the bottom of the card. The child cannot say any of the buzz words or else they will be buzzed (lose their turn), and their team won't score a point for that round.
On my Taboo cards there are some that say 'Teacher Play'. When one of these cards are chosen the child can choose a teacher he/she would like to play in his/her place.
I also included a few blank taboo cards that you can print out and use.
-The drawing (doodle) part of this game is also easy. Just give/show the child the standard or word and have them draw until the children guess what it is. They cannot draw letters or numbers.

You could play this in teams or as a whole Primary. Choose a child to come to the front and have him/her pick a gospel standard; you could have numbers for each standard written on a piece of paper and placed in a container. Have the child pick a piece of paper from the container and then match the number with the standard it goes with and then ask the child if he/she would like to 'Charade', 'Taboo', or 'Doodle'.
When the child has chosen what he/she would like to do give them a few seconds to think about it and then have them begin. Give them 1-2 minutes to act, taboo, or draw their word. If no one has guessed before time is up no points are rewarded or you can give the other team a chance to guess (if you play in teams).
After the word is guessed ask the children what standard it is. Then discuss that Gospel Standard and its importance. Encourage the children to follow these standards and by doing so the will be worthy to enter the Temple one day.

2. Since I shared an idea for Sr. Primary I thought I'd better share an idea for Jr. Primary.
Here is an idea I had:
Have a poster with a girl or boy at the bottom corner. In the opposite corner (up at the top) have a temple. Have a path drawn from the boy/girl to the temple. You can have a path or have 13 different colored squares (one for each standard), you want it to look kind of like a game board.
Tell the children that this little girl/boy would love to go to the temple one day, but there are things he/she needs to do to prepare.
In a bag or box have an item for each standard; it can be an object or a picture. Choose a child to come to the front and pick an item out of the bag. Have him/her show the children what it is and ask how this object can help us get to the temple. Discuss the standard, then move the little boy/girl on the poster one square.
As you discuss each standard move the little boy/girl. After each standard is discussed the little boy/girl will be at the temple.
Tell the children that we can prepare now to be worthy to go to the temple. Encourage them to follow these standards and if they do they will be able to go to the temple one day.

**You could also show the child the object and then have him/her give the other children clues to guess what it is. You can make up a list of clues before-hand in case they need help. Once the children have guessed what it is have the child show them and then discuss the standard it belongs to.

I know this isn't much, but I hope it can help. Hopefully things will slow down soon (and our internet will start working better) so that I can get my ideas on here on time. Have a great week and a great Sharing Time!
Thanks,
Sheena

The Pioneers worked hard and sacrificed to build temples: 3rd Week Sharing Time for July

Sharing Time Idea from the Primary 2011 Sharing Time Outline
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (listening to guest speakers): Gather information about the building of the Kirtland and Salt Lake Temples and, if possible, the temple nearest to where you live. (See Primary 5, lesson 25 and 44 or LDS.org for information on the Kirtland and Salt Lake Temples.) Ask some adults to come to Primary and share the information with the children. Divide the children into groups and have the groups take turns meeting with each of the adults. Invite the children to sing "I love to see the temple" as they move from one guest speaker to another.

NOTE - You may need to adapt activities to the needs of your Primary. For example, if your Primary is large, you may have the guest speakers move from group to group instead of moving the children from one speaker to another. (See TNGC, 179).

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas
My husband is at scout camp this week, so I am actually in Utah visiting my Sister and her family. My kids love their cousins, so we've been having a great time. A little exhausting, but it's always fun. :)

I had a couple easy ideas that I thought you could use for this week's sharing time. Nothing spectacular, but I think they'll work great.

First Idea: My first idea is the idea from the outline, but with a small change. I thought it might be kind of fun to ask 2 adults to help out with this sharing time. Have them each act like a pioneer and talk about a temple (Kirtland & Salt Lake). Tell the children that for Sharing Time they are going to have 2 very special visitors: Pioneers. Introduce your first guest. Have the pioneer come in with a picture of the temple and have him/her show the children the picture. You could also have them read a few facts and have the children guess which temple they're talking about. After the first guest has finished excuse them and then invite the second guest to come in. Finish by talking about the temple nearest you.

Second Idea: Temple Guess: Find several facts about each temple and type/write them up onto pieces of paper. Place each clue inside of a balloon (keeping each temple's clues seperate from the other temple). Blow up the balloons and place in large bags.
Have a picture for each temple posted in the front of the primary room. Show the children the pictures and tell them/ask them which temples these are. Show them the balloons and tell them that inside each balloon are clues about each of these temples. They are going to have to pop each balloon and read the clue aloud. Have them read each clue until they know which temple it is.

**Instead of balloons have all the clues seperated into 3-5 buckets. On each bucket have a points value (10, 25, 50, 75, 100).
Have the pictures of the 3 temples at the front of the rooms. Tell the children that inside each of the buckets are clues about each of these temples. They are going to take turns tossing a bean bag into a bucket. Whatever bucket it lands in they will choose a 'temple fact' out of the bucket. Read the 'fact' aloud and then have the child guess which temple it goes to. If guessed correctly they get to keep the points. Then have them attach the 'fact' onto the temple picture.
Have the children play children against teachers or have them try to reach a certain number of points (500, 800, etc.)
I did this for Sharing time before and the children LOVED it. They loved trying to reach 800 (or whatever it was) points. They cheered whenever anyone made it in a bucket. It was alot of fun.

Third Idea: I thought it would be kind of interesting/fun to have different stations that had to do with 'building', to show the children that it was alot of work to build a temple. I'm not sure what exactly you could do, but some ideas I thought of were:
Picking up a large brick/stones/etcc.: Tell the children that back in the pioneer days they didn't have big construction vehicles to build the temples. Alot of work was manual labor. You could do another station that has to do with the women sacrificing their dishes to use as the walls of the temple. Ask the children how hard it would be to give up something of theirs. Then let them know that even though they had to give up something of theirs it was for something they wanted even more and they would be greatly blessed.
You could even have a puzzle station. Have the children put together a puzzle of a temple and have questions/facts on the back. Then ask the children if the puzzle was easy or hard to put together. If you can find a story about the construction of one of the temples you could share it and tell the children that temples aren't easy to build. Alot of time and hard work goes into building a temple. You could also have them build a temple. Instead of a puzzle have them build a temple using blocks or lego's, etc.

Alright, so this isn't much, but here are a few ideas. I hope they help. Have a great week and a great Sharing Time.

Families are blessed through sacred Temple ordinances: 2nd Week Sharing Time Idea for July

Sharing Time Idea from 2011 Primary Outline
IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (unscrambling words and singing a song): Invite an older child to read the last two sentences from paragraph 3 of The Family: A Proclamation to the World" to the Primary. Put each of the following words and phrases on seperate strips of paper: The temple is, a holy place, where we, are sealed, together. Place them on the board in random order. Have a child move one strip to its correct place. Continue until the words are in order. Sing the second verse of "I love to see the temple" and have half of the children listen for two things we do in the temple (covenant and promise to obey) and the other half listen for a truth they have learned (a family is forever). Help the children understand that being sealed to their family in the temple means that they can be together forever.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (sharing feelings and drawing pictures): Invite a family or a few children to share how they feel when they visit the temple grounds or how they have been blessed because of the temple and sealing ordinances. Invite the children to draw pictures of their family outside the temple.

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas
What a crazy weekend/week it's been. I've had this week's topic in my head for awhile now, but haven't really had alot of time to sit down and really decide what I was doing.
I was on Sugardoodle today looking at some ideas that people were doing and saw a link to another blog. I decided to take a look, and I'm so glad I did. I love this idea from Darcee of Perglers Primary Place.

For her idea she has a large 'Forever Family Tree' a large paper tree with several branches. For the tree she has different branches and each branch is for a different family member. For Sharing Time they are going to help the family on the family tree become a “forever family” by getting each member to the temple. They will discuss the sacred ordinances that need to happen before the family can be a forever family.

Here is a small piece from her idea how to discuss each ordinance:
Darcee typed: "Let’s start with the children on the tree. We are looking for Bobby. Bobby just turned eight and is worthy to be baptized which is a saving ordinance. That means it HAS to happen to be a forever family. Shortly after he is baptized, he is confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and receives the special gift of the Holy Ghost. When hands are laid upon his head and a priesthood blessing is said, that is a saving ordinance. Baptism and confirmation must happen for Bobby to be part of a forever family.
Next is his brother Sam. Sam has just turned twelve and is ready to receive the ordinance of the first priesthood, the Aaronic priesthood. It is important because it will help him grow, learn, and prepare to receive the second priesthood, the Melchizedek priesthood. Of course, this is only for boys. Upon turning twelve and receiving the Aaronic priesthood, Sam can now go to the temple and perform baptisms(similar to this one) but for those that are dead. Because remember, everyone needs to be baptized. Girls can go do temple baptisms at twelve too.'
She continues on with another older Sibling, Parents, and Grandparents each with an ordinance to discuss also. I loved this idea and knew I had to share it with all of you.

Here are some ideas I may incorporate with Darcee's idea:
I thought about showing a picture of a family (or my family or maybe even a primary child's family) to the children and ask them how they would feel if they couldn't live with their family. Then I may ask the children what happens when we die...will our family still be together then?
Then I'll show the children a picture of a temple. You could even put the picture in a gift bag or wrap it in a box and tell the children that our Heavenly Father has given us a gift (blessed us), so that we can be with our family forever.
After I show them the picture of the temple I will have a child read the last 2 sentences of The Proclamation. I will tell the children that today we are going to discuss these sacred ordinances. I will then show them my tree and introduce them to our 'Forever Family'. Instead of having the Gospel Art Kit pictures on the tree, I thought about having little people cut-outs with their names on each one. I will have different children come to the front and act as that part of the family. While I read the family members part I will have the child hold the GAK picture. As I continue with the story and invite another child to the front, I will have them lock arms together.
At the end of the lesson I will show the Primary children how the family is bound together. I might even try to pull the children apart or something.
I will tell the others that because of these sacred ordinances our family is bound and that means they will be together forever and will be able to live with their Heavenly Father again.
If you don't want to make a tree you could just have 5 children come to the front of the room and give each one a name tag (a big name tag that hangs around their neck). You could make it kind of fun by having them dress the part somehow. Demonstrate at the beginning that they aren't 'bound' together.
I have to give Darcee a huge THANK YOU for her wonderful idea. Hope you all like it and I hope all of you have a great Sharing Time.
Thanks! Have a great week!!
