1st & 2nd Week Sharing Time Idea for September: I Show love for Jesus Christ when I keep the commandments.

Alright, so I really love the idea that they have in the outline. But since 2 weeks are sharing this one topic I decided to come up with a few different ideas.
I really liked the idea of having the children memorize the scripture, so I have included that in my Sharing Time idea. It is always great to have different things for the children to do, it helps keep their attention.
I have also included 4 different games that you can play. These games will help teach the children about the Ten Commandments/Gospel Standards. There are 2 that would work great for Jr. Primary and the other 2 would work better for Sr. Primary.

The games are:

I think these games will be alot of fun, and will also teach the children the importance of obeying the commandments.

**UPDATE** I had to share the great idea that a wonderful woman left as a comment (I don't have your name, let me know so I can give you credit :) ). Here is what she said:
Your Commandment Scavenger hunt has completely inspired me! Thank you, thank you! :) I'm going to use your picture idea with each scripture reference and place each picture on different classroom doors, as we read the scriptures, we'll find the matching picture on the coordinating door and we'll follow the rooms until we reach the last room where they'll be a treasure box with gold chocolate coins attached to a note about TREASURING the commandments and showing love for Jesus Christ!

Isn't that a great idea? Thanks again for sharing your wonderful idea.

I hope all of you have a wonderful week. And thanks again for visiting my blog, I really appreciate it. And thank you so much for all your wonderful comments, I love reading them!

5th Sunday Sharing Time Idea for August

I think the 5th Sunday is a perfect time to Review. You can review any topic you think would be good to go over, or just go over what the children learned that month. And since there isn’t an idea for the 5th Sunday you can make it extra fun. I think any game is perfect for reviewing and the children Love playing games. So, I have listed a few game ideas that I think would work great for this Sunday. I have also included a fun 'Cranium' game. Some of these games are probably better for Sr. Primary, but there are some that would work for Jr. Primary also. So here are my ideas...

Bowling:
If you have a children’s bowling set use it! The children absolutely love bowling, especially Jr. Primary.

Split the Primary into 2 teams. Have a score board with each team’s name on it (You could find an actual bowling score sheet online and use that).
The teams will get points for how many pins they knock down but there’s a twist. Here’s an example to make this easier to understand:
A child comes up and bowls and knocks down 6 pins. After he has bowled you will ask them a question. If he answers the question his team will receive 6 points (the number of pins he knocked down.) If he answers incorrectly they get a ‘Gutter Ball,’ 0 points (even though he actually knocked down 6). The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Golf:
Get several large cans, these will be the holes. You can cover them with some cute scrapbook paper if you would like and then label each one with a certain amount of points. You will also need a putter. You could use a yardstick, a large dowel, etc and attach something to the end to make your own putter.
Split the Primary into 2 teams or have the Primary play as one big team. You could even do children against teachers, they would love that. Take turns having a child come up and golf. Then ask the child a question. If they answer the question correctly they get the amount of points that is on the can that they golfed in to. If they answer the question incorrectly they get 0 points (or you could give them 1 point). You could even give the children 1 point if they aren’t able to make it into the can. The team with the most points wins!

LDS Squares:
I shared this game in one of my previous posts. I played this for Sharing time once and it was really fun. I think this would be great for a 5th Sunday review game. All you need is 9 adults to be you tic-tac-toe squares, questions, and ‘X’ & ‘O’ signs for each adult.
Have the adults sit in 3 rows of 3 to represent the tic-tac-toe squares. Split the primary into 2 teams, X’s & O’s.
Begin by choosing one of the teams to go first. They first player will then choose an adult they would like to answer their question. Once they have chosen one of the adults read a question to the adult. The adult will then answer the question, but they can answer the question correctly or they can bluff and make-up a fake answer. The team has to choose whether to agree or disagree with the answer that was given. If the team makes the right decision they get the square, and the adult then holds up either the ‘X’ or ‘O’ sign. If the team agrees with the adult when the answer is wrong or vice versa, the opposing team automatically gets the square, unless that causes the opposing team to get three in a row. In that case, the opposing team has to win the square on their own, having the adult answer a new question.
Another way of winning the round is: if no one has gotten 3 in a row, but has 5 squares marked with their ‘X’ or ‘O’ they win.
We played a few rounds of this, and kept score of how many rounds they won. This is a really fun game!

Miracles Cranium Game:
A few months ago I shared a 'Service Cranium' game with you on my blog. As I was thinking of ideas for this week, I thought 'Cranium' would be a really fun game to play to review what we have been teaching this month. Thanks Stacie for you comment. I used your 'Hum a Tune' category for this game, thanks!!
So, here is my Cranium game, hope you like it!

Well, I hope some of my ideas can help some of you out. Have a great week!! Enjoy your summer...it will be over before we know it!

4th Week Sharing Time idea for August: Miracles come to those who have faith.

Is anyone else a little ready for summer to be over so your life can get back to normal? We just had a family reunion at my In-laws where close to 200 people came. Talk about CRAZY! It seems like this summer has been go go go... We have had alot of fun, but I think I'm ready for some rest. :)

So why am I telling you this...because it's Tuesday and I am just now posting ideas for this Sunday, and I didn't type up an actual Sharing Time outline for you to just print out...sorry. Hopefully when things calm down a bit I will be able to post ideas on time and type them up for you. :) So, today I am just going to share some ideas that you could use for this week.

1. Time Travel- you could set up the Primary room to make it look like a time machine. Visit different scripture stories where faith produced a miracle (examples in the 2010 Sharing Time Outline). Have several adults dress up and act out each story that you visit.
2. Walk of Miracles-If you don't want to do a time machine. Tell the children that you are going to take them on a journey. Ask some adults to help you out by acting like some people from the scriptures. You will have them dress up and tell the children their story. Have them each in a seperat room. For example: the first room could be Daniel. Take the children on a little walk to visit Daniel. Have him tell the children the story and tell the children that because of his faith a great miracle happened. You could even have them room look like the den, with a bunch of stuffed Lions around the room. Once he's done leave the room and take them to the next room...the brother of Jared. After the last story you could go back to the Primary room and have the Bishop in there. He could talk to the children about Faith and Miracles and he could even share a personal story with the children.
3. 'Who Am I' game: Figure out which stories you would like to share with the children (i.e- Daniel and the Lions Den, Elija and the widow of Zarephath, the brother of Jared, etc.). Find a picture that goes with each story and also write up a few clues for each story. Example: The King passed a law saying that no one could pray, but I prayed anyway; Because I prayed I was thrown into a den of lions, etc. Choose several children to come up and read the clues to the others. Read one clue at a time until someone knows who that person is. You could even have the child dress up like the person in their story.
4. Act it out: Split the primary into groups. Give each group a story and some costumes/props. Have them read the story together and then perform the story for the other children. Have the other children guess what story they are acting out.
5. Tic-Tac-Toe: I ended up doing this for my Sharing Time last week for Sr. Primary. I picked 3 stories that went along with the theme. For one of the stories, I had the children read it aloud from the scriptures (we just had each person read one verse at a time). After each verse I explained what it was saying. Then the last 2 I read the story on the back of the Gospel Art Kit pictures. I had made up a Tic-Tac- Toe grid and on each square I had 2-3 questions. These questions had to do with one of the stories that we read. I split the primary into 2 teams, X's and O's. I chose one team to come up first and pick a square and a question that was in that square. Then I read the question to them and had them answer it. If they answered correctly they got the square. If they answered incorrectly the other team got a chance to answer it. On each question I had a scripture reference that they could look up if they needed help. We didn't have much time, but we had enough time to finish one round of Tic-Tac-Toe. And they amazed me! They never had to look up the scripture to find the answer, they knew every answer!

Alright...so there are some of my ideas. Take a look at some of my other games that I have used in the past, you could use any of those for this week also.

Take a look at Sophia's Primary Blog, she has a really cute idea for this week. She had the idea of having 6 different objects hidden under 6 blankets. Each object has to do with a story from the scriptures. The children have to guess what is under the blanket by reading clues. Once they have figured out what is under the blanket you can read the story to the children. Cute idea!! Click on the link above to visit her blog.
(I just realized she has a time travel idea too, really cute! I promise I didn't copy you Sophia. :) )

I hope you have a wonderful week!!

Oh...I am planning on coming up with an idea for the 5th Sunday. So check back later this week for my 5th Sunday idea. Thanks everyone!!

3rd Week Sharing Time Idea for August: Jesus Christ has Power Over Death

Here are some ideas for this Sunday's Sharing Time (3rd Week of August).
I didn't type up an actual outline for this Sharing Time...just a list of some ideas that you could use.

Alright for my first idea:
I thought of having someone come in dressed up as Lazarus. Have him come in and share the story of Jesus Raising Lazarus (John 11:1-45). You can have Lazarus read from the Scriptures, read the story from the Gospel Art Picture (GAK 222) or you can use this story from the Friend, found Here.
(You could also have a few adults act out the story.)

After 'Lazarus' shares his story we are going to play a review type game.
(I figured for Jr. Primary one story would be long enough for them, but you could have 2 people come in and share stories.)
I have a few game ideas found Here, that you could use. But I'm thinking I may do the Balloon Pop game. I know the children (especially Jr. Primary) loved this game, and it kept their attention really well.
Just come up with a few simple questions and place the question inside of the balloon. Take turns choosing a child to come up and pop the balloon. Then ask them the question.

You could also do a type of Secret Code puzzle along with the Balloon Pop Game.
On a chalkboard or poster draw enough dashed lines for the phrase: Has Power Over Death. (that's 17 blank lines). Underneath each line have a different shape.
On a piece of paper, write your question. Below your question write one letter that is in your word puzzle phrase and below the letter draw a shape.
For example:
Who did Jesus raise from the Dead?
'H'
Triangle
(you'll have the shape not the word)
Have them answer the question and then find the triangle in the Phrase Puzzle and write 'H' where the triangle is.
Here's an example. Click Here to see my Word Puzzle.

Have the child answer the question and then show them the shape and the letter. Have them find where that letter goes. Once they find the right space/spaces write in the letter. Once the phrase is complete ask if anyone knows what it says. Ask the children 'Who has power over death?' Then show them a picture of Christ and tell them 'Jesus Christ has power over death.' Have them repeat the phrase with you. Then explain to the children what that means. Remind them of the story that they heard about today. Bear your Testimony.

My Second Idea:
I thought this would work better for Sr. Primary. When I read the idea in the outline I liked the idea of having people come in and act like someone from each story. Then I thought you could have the children interview them.
Give each class a scripture reference: The Raising of Lazarus (John 11:1-45); Raising of Jairus's Daughter (Mark 5:21-24, 35-43); Raising of the Widow's Son (Luke 7:11-16); and the Resurrection (John 20: 1-18). Ask each teacher to leave 5-10 minutes at the end of their lesson to read the story and come up with some questions. Explain to the teacher what you will be doing, so she/he can help with the questions.
For Sharing Time: Tell the children that today there are going to be some visitors coming to Primary. Tell them that they are going to share some stories with us. Once they have shared their story you will ask which group had this story. Then the class who read that scripture story will come up and take turns asking the visitor their questions. Once all of the questions have been asked and answered excuse the visitor and bring in the next visitor.
You could have a fake microphone and act like you're on T.V. reporting News. Make it fun!

Some questions you could use could be:
Describe what you saw.
How was it possible for Jesus to do this?
How did you feel when you saw Jesus Christ do this?
What difference does this make in your life?
(You could give a list of questions to the teacher in case some of the children have trouble coming up with their own.)

Another idea you could do:
Instead of having every child come up with questions, have each class pick 3-4 children to ask the questions. In the Primary room have a table set up with 3-4 seats and a fake microphone at each seat.
You will be the News Anchor Woman. Have the first group of children come up and sit at the table. Pretending like a News show, introudce your News Show. You could call it 'LDS News hour' or something like that.
Then introduce your guest panel (the children). Tell the others that they are here today to interview a very important guest. Next introduce your guest (Lazarus). Have him come in and share his story with the children. After he is done have the 'panel' ask him their questions. When they are finished make some closing comments and then excuse the guest and the panel. Call up the next panel and introduce them and then bring in your next guest.
Those are my ideas for this Sunday, hope you like them.

~I also saw an idea on Sugardoodle that would be great for Jr. Primary. Click Here to view Athena's Sharing Time idea (comment #5).

Have a great week everyone!

Sunbeam Stamps-stamps for any LDS occasion

Hi! I am Sheena's sister, Shannon. Sheena asked me to post some of my ideas for primary teacher gifts, baptism gifts and hand-outs. I am a scrapbooker and love any excuse to use my creative side.
Laura from Sunbeam Stamps sent us several stamps to use. Thanks Laura! Sunbean Stamps has stamps for almost every LDS occasion--young women, relief society, scouts, missionary, quotes, family and, of course, primary. They have so many adorable stamps that I had a hard time choosing just a few.
Laura started Sunbean Stamps because she had could not find a baptism stamp for her sons' baptism. She felt that if she saw a need for LDS stamps then others probably did too. She searched for the best manufacturer and I think she found them. I have used stamps from several different companies and I think her stamps are high quality stamps.
Sunbeam stamps has clear and wooden stamps, ink pads, glitter pens and more. Be sure to check out their website at http://www.sunbeamstamps.com/ and tell them that Little LDS Ideas sent you.

Teacher Appreciation Jar
Primary teachers have such an important job & I dont think they get thanked enough. Why not make this appreciation jar, fill it with their favorite candy and make sure they know that they are loved and appreciated?!
How to make: Wrap a strip of colored cardstock around the jar. Stamp the 'I belong to the Church Kids' stamp on a strip of white cardstock. Wrap the white, stamped strip onto the jar. Write or type a thank you message and attach to the jar with string. Fill with candy or another treat.

Baptism gifts
Help primary children gain a love of the scriptures by giving them a set of scripture pencils. Add a travel sized Book of Mormom and they will be ready to answer any question asked of them in primary. : )

If a set of scripture pencils is a bit much, I am sure they would be just as excited about receiving just one.

How to Make: I made the brown box out of cardstock but you could easily use the box the pencils come in. Stamp the 'I belong to the Church Circle' stamp on a colored piece of cardstock. Cut out around the circle and attach with a colored string.

Baptism Picture Frame Gift
What a great way to showcase your child's special day! This frame includes a photo of the baptism girl/boy (hopefully in their white clothes), details of the day and the quote, "Little Child all dressed in White I can choose the right."
How to Make: I used a picture frame that will hold a 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" picture. Cut a piece of white cardstock for the background. Stamp the 'Little Child' stamp on off-white or light cream cardstock. Back with white cardstock.
Attach a piece of off-white or light cream ribbon along the bottom-it can go on top of or behind the photo. Write or type the details of  the baptism day on a piece of off-white or light cream cardstock and attach on top of the ribbon.  I wrote:
"Tyler Moake
Baptized by his father
on 28 December 2006"

Primary Lollipop Hand-outs
How to make: Stamp the 'I belong to the Church Circle' stamp on a colored piece of cardstock. Cut out around the circle and attach with a colored string.

I may be posting more ideas using Sunbeam Stamps in the near future, so be sure to check back soon.

Articles Of Faith Scavenger Hunt: A Primary Quarterly Activity

UPDATE: I still had people having problems using google docs, so I decided to move my files somewhere else. So try the new link out and let me know if you're still having problems downloading/viewing the files. Thanks!!

When I got called to be the 2nd Counselor in our Primary Presidency I really didn't know what to expect, I had never been in a Primary Presidency. At our first meeting, the Primary President let us choose what we wanted to be in charge of, so I chose Quarterly Activities. I don't think I knew what I was getting in to. Just kidding, it's alot of work, but I really love doing it.
So, it was time for an Activity, and the children had been memorizing the Articles of Faith. I thought that a Scavenger Hunt would be fun, so I searched the internet for an Articles of Faith Scavenger Hunt. No Luck! I decided to create my own. So, with the help from my sister, we came up with a Scavenger Hunt. It took some work, but I was so excited!
The day came for the activity. I got to the church and started setting up all of the rooms, hanging up signs, and then came the clues...I was not prepared for this! I didn't have any kind of list telling me where to put the clues, and we only had a few minutes before the activity started. I was so upset, I thought I had ruined my first ever Quarterly Activity. But it worked out, and the kids had alot of fun.

So, today I am sharing my Articles of Faith Scavenger Hunt with you. It's taken quite a bit of work, but I am really excited to share this with all of you. I had to save this activity into 3 seperate documents.
First: Scavenger Hunt Instruction Sheet-this will give you an overview, and tell you what you need to do to prepare for the activity
Second: Scavenger Hunt Clue Instruction Sheet- this includes instructions on making the clues, setting them up, and then I have included all the clues that will be used for the activity.
Third: Scavenger Hunt Instruction Door Signs- these signs will go on each of the doors. They have instructions that tell the children what they will be doing in that room. Also attached in this document are all of the games/puzzles for each Article of Faith.
There's alot of pages, but most everything is there for you (there's a few pictures, signs, that you'll have to come up with, but I tell you what they are).

I have tried to explain everything so that it's easy to understand. When you look at the document don't get discouraged, I promise it's not as difficult and time consuming as it looks, haha.
I am actually planning on doing this activity again at the end of the year, since my first attempt didn't actually turn out the way I wanted.

So take a look. And if you have any questions about anything please leave a comment or send me an email at: littleldsideas@hotmail.com Hope you like it!

The clipart used in this activity came from: Mormon Share, Sugardoodle, the Primary Clip Art CD, and Microsoft Word. If I have forgotten to give credit to any other source, please let me know.

This has taken alot of work, you can post this idea on your websites, but please don't take credit for any of the work. Thanks!

2nd Week of August Sharing Time Idea: Jesus Christ Can Heal the Sick.

So, once again I am being lazy this week. :) Last week we were gone to a Family Reunion in Boise. I thought that I would have time to sit in our hotel and post an idea for this week, but I was wrong. I don't know why I always think I am going to have time to do all these things when we go on vacation...because I never do. So that is my excuse for posting this so late and for not typing up an actual idea. Sorry. :)

For this week I am going to share a few ideas that you can use this for Sunday.
1. I really like the idea that is in the outline. But I did have an idea that you could do, especially for Jr. Primary. In the outline they have you split the children into groups and discuss one of the stories where Jesus heals someone. Great idea!
I thought it would be kind of fun to print out the Gospel Ark Kit pictures (or make copies of pictures) for each story that you will use and cut it into puzzle pieces. As you read the story have the children put the puzzle together to figure out what story it is. Or you could read a little bit of the story and then ask them a question. If they answer correctly, they get a puzzle piece. Continue reading and then ask another question...then give them another piece of the puzzle.
You could do this in individual groups or as a whole primary. If you split the children into groups leave time at the end for each group to come up and show their puzzle and retell the story in their own words.
I think by having the children retell the story it will help them to remember this story and to learn about Jesus Christ. After each group has shown their puzzle, bear testimony of Jesus Christ

2. For my next idea I am going to share what the 2nd counselor in my ward did last month for her Sharing Time. I've changed it just a little so it goes along with this week's theme. At the front of the room she had different objects (i.e.-gauze, glasses, bread, etc.) She also had a large dice. Instead of having numbers on the dice she had things like: eyes, fish and bread, death, etc. (she had pictures for each word). She chose a child from one of the classes to roll the dice. Then she would ask what object goes with that word/picture. Then around the room were different GAK pictures. She had the whole class get up and look for the picture that went along with that object (whichever class the child that rolled the dice belonged to got to get up and find the picture). Once they found the picture they would discuss the story.

Look at the stories and find a picture for each story. Then make your dice and choose your objects.
Some ideas you could use...
Jesus healing the 2 blind men (Matthew 9:27-31)- Dice: have eyes; Object- you could have a pair of glasses.
The Nobleman's Son (John4:46-53)- Dice: have a picture of someone sick with a thermometer in their mouth; Object- you could have medicine, a thermometer, something to do with being sick.

So, have a child come up and roll the dice. Let's say they rolled the 'Eyes'. Have them go to the objects and choose what goes along with eyes....glasses. You could then have them guess which picture it goes with...or...read them the story then have them find the picture. After you have read the story ask the children 'How did Jesus heal in this story?'
After all the stories have been read bear testimony of Jesus Christ.

3. Make a crossword puzzle (this would be best for Sr. Primary). For the clues have a scripture reference and a question. Have the children read the scripture and then answer the question. The answer to the question can be the word for the crossword puzzle.
Some ideas you could use.....

Luke 17:11-14; How many men did Jesus heal? Ten
What disease did the men have? Leprosy
John 5:1-9; When Jesus healed the man what was he able to do? Walk

This is a fun way for the children to read scriptures and learn about Jesus healing the sick.
Here is a website that will create a crossword puzzle for you. I created one and then drew it onto a poster-board.
4. Tic-Tac-Toe: Make a large Tic-Tac-Toe grid. In each square you could have a picture or a scripture reference. Have the children read the scripture and then ask them a question. They must answer the question correctly in order to put an 'X' or 'O' in that square. If they answer incorrectly the other team gets a chance to answer the question. You could use the example questions above.

Alright, so there are my ideas for this week's sharing time. I hope these can help some of you out. And I apologize again for posting this so late. Have a great week!!!
